Why support Whistleblowers?
Whistleblowers play a crucial role in exposing wrongdoing, but they often suffer significant personal and professional setbacks. Mandy Wiener, in her book “The Whistleblowers,” highlights the dangers and hardships they face, including unemployment, loss of income, and mental health challenges. Many lose their homes, families, and even their lives. Our campaign aims to restore their dignity by providing much-needed financial support.
The Walk
Cynthia Stimpel will walk the Cape Camino, covering 700 kilometres over 40 days, from 6 October to 14 November 2024. This walk symbolises the burdens whistleblowers carry and aims to raise funds through sponsorships for every kilometre walked.
Objectives
- Raise Awareness: Highlight the plight of whistleblowers through daily stories and social media updates.
- Financial Support: Secure funds for legal assistance, mental and physical health care, safety, and living expenses.
- Promote Moral Courage: Emphasise the importance of ethics and moral courage.
Route
The Cape Camino covers approximately 700 kilometres, starting from Wellington and traversing diverse landscapes, including vineyards, farmlands, coastal regions, and the Cape Peninsula. Each section offers unique experiences, from the rich soils of the Winelands to the vibrant culture of Cape Town. The Cape Camino is South Africa's community-owned national asset. It is a personal pilgrimage, from a personal perspective, creating a personal experience.
